STATEMENT FROM CHRISTIN WHITE-KAISER, PARENT OF A TYPE 2 PUBLIC CHARTER SCHOOL STUDENT:

“With today’s supreme court hearing we are one step closer to affirming the rights of parents to choose the educational option that works for their children. This frivolous lawsuit from the union is about money, not what’s best for students. That was made clear today in the hearing when the union lawyers made no mention of children and insisted it was “our money.” They are wrong.”

The district court, in May of 2015, established that charter schools are public schools and the current funding mechanism established by the state can continue. Despite the district court’s ruling, the union pushed forward with an appeal. In January of this year the appeals court sided with the union, triggering an appeal to the supreme court.
